Essential Oils 101

With more and more people seeking alternative solutions for their health challenges, essential oils have increased in popularity in the past few years. You may even have a friend or family member who sells them! 

Don’t worry that they’re a passing trend though, they’ve been used medicinally for over 5000 years. (1)

 

Before we get much further, what are essential oils?


Pure essential oils are highly concentrated extractions from plants or trees. The oils are derived from different parts of the plant, including the fruit, seeds, root, or bark.


Pure, high-quality essential oils can be diffused for aromatherapyapplied to the skin topically, or ingested to help with a wide-variety of ailments. (1)  As with all healthcare supplements, be sure to source from a reputable company. Some products labeled “essential oils” are not food-grade and should should not be consumed.


Different essential oils have different healing properties, and can be used alone or combined with other therapies to boost health.
